Difference between Creative Writing and Content Writing, And how people get Confused!

For a novice person writing, on the whole, both are the same. For him, Creative and Content writing is the same concept. But when you ask a person related to this field, he would give a long and descriptive answer explaining the differences. Let’s look at how they are different:

1-     What does creative writing mean?

Creative Writing - Creative writing is more about expressing feelings. Some people may use it for expressing ideas and thoughts also. It includes creating our own thoughts and it has been taught to us since our school days. Creative writing as the name suggests is more on the creative side. It is more on the artistic side and can have distinctive flairs. Storytelling comes in this type of writing and is read mainly for enjoyment. It is mainly poetry, novels, etc. It is mostly done for recreational purposes and less for earning money.

In this type of writing, the writing style flows freely and the readers enjoy it, irrespective of it, whether it makes sense or not. This type of writing does not follow a certain type of rule that is done in professional writing. It has different types and some of them are as follows: journals, diaries, essays, memoirs, scripts, etc. In today’s time, a writer must be good at every type of writing whether it is creative or content. Being skilled in both is highly essential to be in the market.


 2-     What does content writing mean?

Content Writing – This type of writing is marketing is done for web marketing campaigns. The purpose of content writing is to persuade a person to buy a product again and again or visit a page many times. It makes the readers take an action. Lots of research takes place in this style of writing, For Example: If you are writing a case study then you have to meet the company employees, clients, etc. Content writing makes use of SEO to make itself come in the higher rank in the Search Engines and make itself visible to its readers.  

Content writing makes the business more attractive and appealing from a broader perspective. Through various methods like SEO (Search Engine Optimization), content gets its worth and so many readers come to the site, if only the content is valuable, otherwise no one would read your content. For writing content, you are provided with a limited time and within that, you have to give your best shot.

In the end, the main question arises which is best and has more scope. Both creative and content writing has ample scope, but content writing is done for businesses so it has a slight edge over creative writing. Some creative writers are doing content writing to pay their bills, etc.
